Elementary Fall Back To School Conferences - Sept. 4-5

Back to School Conferences coming to
LeRoy-Ostrander Elementary for the
Fall of 2018-2019 School Year.

Our building leadership team has been researching ways to improve your experience in the fall when you meet your child’s teacher for the first time. Back to School Conferences approach will allow us to do that. It would also allow your child the opportunity to start a daily routine earlier in the school year without as many disruptions. Best of all, your child’s teacher will start the school year with more individualized information about your child.

How are Back to School Conferences different than traditional Open House night?

The main change would be that the first two days of the LeRoy-Ostrander Public Schools’ 2018-2019 school year will be modified for all LeRoy-Ostrander Elementary families. Our students will not report to school on the first two days of the school year; Tuesday, September 4th and Wednesday, September 5th.  Instead, these days will be designated as student conference days between teachers, families and students.

What do student conferences consist of?

Each family will have a 20-minute conference time with their student’s teacher. During the 20 minute meeting, time will be allotted to review standardized data from previous years, for personal discussions about your child and preview classroom expectations. Students will be completing start of the year Fastbridge Testing while parents meet with the teachers.  Teachers look forward to learning more about the student and the student’s family during conferences to help everyone be more successful from the first day of school.

What other services will be available before or after the student conference?

We want to ensure that you will be able to take care of many beginning of the year duties. We will have the following available, so please plan about 30 minutes either before or after your conference to visit or explore these groups:

  • Drop off any forms
  • Pay for Milk Break, Lunch Account, and any other Fees
  • Nurse, Social Worker
  • Reading Corp, Math Corp, Title 1, Special Education, Music, Art and PE Teachers

How do I sign up for my conference times?

In June, parents will begin receiving notifications via email with a link to sign-up. If you do not have an email on file with the school, please call Leann in the office to provide an email or discuss setting up a conference time.

What if I have more than one child attending?

If you have more than one student attending the elementary, you will want to sign up for a 20-minute time slot with the classroom teacher for each child.

What should I bring with me to my conference?

Plan to bring your student(s), completed forms, a way to pay for milk break, Ipad (grades 4-5), lunch account, other fees for alternative programming and any questions you may have.  We will not have cash on hand for change, so please plan accordingly.  A list of individual class fees will be forwarded in August.

What if I cannot attend a conference on either date?

Please call our office at 324-5741 to establish an alternate plan.

Will full day Cardinal Kids (SAC) be available on these dates?

Yes. Cardinal Kids is planning to make arrangements to have staff available on both days to be open from 6am-6:15pm.

When is the first full day of school at the Elementary?

The first full day for Elementary will begin on the third day of the student school calendar; Thursday, September 6th.  The Middle School and High School will be on Tuesday, September 4th as normal.

What if translation services are needed?

Our bilingual staff will be available for families that need this service. The dates and times will be determined and forwarded.
